BARRATT HOMES MOVES HOUSE
13 February 2007
The York division of national house building company Barratt Homes, which has helped more than 15,000 people move house in the last 34 years, is packing its own boxes and moving to new business premises.
Barratt York is moving to new 12,250sq ft offices at Alpha Court at Monks Cross North business park on the York outer ring road.
Paul Newman, managing director of Barratt York, which employs 300 people and develops new homes across York and North Yorkshire, the Humber and North Lincolnshire says: "Many of our customers buy their new home from us because they need more room - and that's exactly what's happened to us. We had outgrown our premises at Poppleton and needed more space.
"Location is important when you buy a new home and it's equally important for business premises too. Monks Cross North has good car parking, is right next to the shopping park, has good road access, is close to the city centre and there's a Park & Ride - it has everything that we need as a modern, fast-growing company."
Richard Peak, director of the Helmsley Group and spokesperson for the Monks Cross Partnership who are developing the 60-acre Monks Cross North business park, said: "All the offices have been built on a speculative basis and there is just 7,250sq ft left at Alpha. The Omega offices all sold off plan and we have just received planning permission for the next phase of development Sigma, a 39,000sq ft speculative development of up to six separate units, built as three individual office buildings around a central courtyard with car parking."
The o7 million Sigma office development will be located next to the existing purpose-built Norwich Union Life head office premises, home to up to 900 staff.
Other businesses located at Monks Cross North include Business Link York & North Yorkshire, accountancy firm Garbutt & Elliott and Scarborough Property Group.
