YORK HOUSING ASSOCIATION FINDS NEW HOME AT MONKS CROSS NORTH

YORK HOUSING ASSOCIATION FINDS NEW HOME AT MONKS CROSS NORTH

28 February 2005

An organisation that specialises in providing affordable homes for people in housing need is moving to new premises at Monks Cross North business park in York. York Housing Association is an independent not-for-profit, housing organisation that manages 500 houses and flats for rent to people in housing need in the Yorkshire and Humber Region. The organisation is moving from city centre premises on Micklegate to a 5,000 sq ft (465 sq m) high quality office within the Alpha development at Monks Cross North, close to the north east outer ring road and A64. Alpha, a o9m development of seven office units 53,000 sq ft in size was officially opened by HRH The Duke of York. Three units remain available. Christine Storrs, chief executive at York Housing Association said: "We have been at our current premises in Micklegate since 1995 and these offices are now much too small for us. With our business continuing to expand it has been essential to find premises that would work more effectively for us. "We have chosen to move to bright modern spacious offices on the new Monks Cross North business park. The building has full disabled access, modern comfort cooled offices, additional meeting rooms and client facilities. There is car parking on site, the offices are accessible by public transport and there is direct access to the York outer ring road. This is a big move for the Association and we are very positive that it is the right one." Richard Peak, director of The Helmsley Group and spokesperson for the Monks Cross Partnership, which is currently developing further office space at Monks Cross North said: "Monks Cross North is fast becoming known as a fantastic out-of-town business location, which has good parking, is well served by a regular Park and Ride service and is also close to the Shopping Park where occupiers include Boots, Marks & Spencer Food and Sainsburys. We are attracting a good mix of organisations many of which are expanding from smaller and older city centre accommodation, as well as meeting the needs of small owner-managed businesses looking to purchase their own premises as a long term investment." Monks Cross North is planned to be developed in phases over a 10-year period. Planning permission has been granted for the next phase - Omega - a terrace of six offices of 1,380 sq ft and 1,800 sq ft units, which are being offered for sale and will be ready for occupation later this year. Features will include broadband links, raised floors, feature reception areas, dedicated car parking and in a first for York for offices of this size, comfort cooling and lifts. The units also comply fully with all the latest Disability Discrimination Act requirements. Project managed by the Monks Cross Partnership, the design of the buildings will follow the style of current developments on the business park. Close attention will be paid to ensuring the aesthetics of the area, while providing the much-needed supply of office accommodation required by a growing business centre such as York.
